Mark Baldwin

Mark is a Chartered Patent Attorney and European Patent Attorney as well as being a European Design Attorney and European Trade Mark Attorney.  He has an honours degree in mechanical engineering from King’s College, University of London. 

Prior to entering university, Mark worked at shop floor level in the car making industry, where he gained hands on experience of working with heavy duty press and line transfer machinery.  He also worked in a machine shop where he was involved in the design, manufacture and modification of scientific instruments. 

On graduating from university, Mark joined a well-known London firm of patent attorneys before moving to the in-house patent department of Molins plc.  At Molins much of his time was spent working on patents relating to packaging machinery and high speed processing machinery.  When Molins closed its patent department, he re-entered private practice, eventually joining R G C Jenkins & Co where he became a partner, a position he held until leaving to establish Firebird IP.  Mark handles a wide range of cases relating mainly to mechanical and electro-mechanical subject-matter and has been involved in advising on a wide variety of issues relating to designs and patents including appeals before the Boards of Appeal of the EPO, litigation in China and France and revocation of United Kingdom and European patents.

Mark is an affiliate member of The Institute of International Licensing Practitioners.

David H L Edwards - Consultant

David is a Chartered Patent Attorney, and European Patent Attorney as well as being a European Design Attorney and European Trade Mark Attorney.  David graduated with a degree in Engineering from Cardiff University in 1993 and from Queen Mary and Westfield College, London University in 1994 with an MSc in Intellectual Property Law.

David was a Senior Associate with a large London based private practice prior to joining the in-house patent department of a well-known United Kingdom industrial concern.  He returned to private practice in 2006 and now handles patent cases within the mechanical and electronics fields.  He is particularly experienced in the fields of vehicle sub-systems and components, control systems and vacuum pumping technologies.  David also advises on the strategic management and exploitation of all forms of IP and in particular drafts and negotiates licence and collaboration agreements, and supports corporate transactions involving intellectual property.

In addition to his work as an associate of Firebird IP, David provides an IP consultancy service to several UK Industrial and Engineering companies.  He also chairs a European Industry lobby group and has until recently been an Examiner for the Joint Examination Board of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys and the Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys.
